On the 30th September, the CEO of the Gozo Business Chamber, Daniel Borg, participated in the international symposium ‘Il-Presepju bejn Passat u Futur’ organised by the voluntary organisation Għimmanu El’ – Għaqda Presepisti Għajnsielem. His intervention focused on Gozo’s cultural heritage.
Gozo’s high quality cultural calendar shows the level of autonomy achieved by the island of Gozo throughout the years. In this sense, Gozo, though not autonomous formally, shows a high degree of autonomy through its cultural activities, which reflect its unique identity and culture. What is interesting is the high level of collaboration between the state and the voluntary sector in this area. This collaboration is mutually beneficial as it ensures a high calibre cultural calendar at a contained cost, while strengthening the island’s social fabric. Daniel Borg delved also into the dynamics faced by non governmental organisations, especially those on the island of Gozo, where youth at a young age relocate to Malta for work and study purposes. He also highlighted the way forward which should be the continued collaboration between the state and the voluntary sector in this area.
The proceedings of the symposium were in Maltese.
