On the third day the delegation held an important meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. The delegation composed of Joseph Borg, Michael Galea and Daniel discussed the promotion of the island agenda at an EU level.
Another productive meeting was held with the President of the EESC – European Economic and Social Committee, Oliver Röpke. The delegation discussed ways on how cooperation between the two entities could be strengthened to promote the island agenda at an EU level.
During these same meetings the INSULEUR delegation sought to strengthen the ties with these same institutions, highlighting the importance of the island and the particular conditions and challenges faced by these islands. The EU at all levels needs to address the challenges faced by islands through specific policy instruments, and by recognising ‘the island dimension’. This means that in every policy instrument it considers it needs to see the impact this will have on islands.
