On the 21st February 2024 the Gozo Business Chamber held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Queen Mary University of London, Malta Campus, Victoria. This year’s AGM also saw the election of the new council members for the period 2024-2025.
The first part of the Annual General Meeting was dedicated to the presentation of the annual administrative report by the Chief Executive Officer of the Gozo Business Chamber. In his introductory remarks Daniel Borg highlighted that the Chamber “during the past year, has consistently worked on ethics in business, the environment, accessibility, and youth enterprise. The Chamber has also consistently spoken in a clear and transparent manner on issues that affect not only Gozitan businesses but also the community.” In his presentation, he outlined the Chamber’s work over the past year including the work of the Europe Direct Office within the Chamber, and the Chamber’s work within INSULEUR (the Insular Chambers of Commerce of the European Union). Here the Chamber provided significant input in various fora.
During each AGM the Chamber also presents a topic of interest to its members. This year, Ricky Bugeja, partner in reach.mt, delivered a presentation on the benefit of digital transformation for Gozitan businesses. He also provided an overview of the work being conducted within the Chamber to establish a youth network. Interventions during this year’s AGM featured also Hon Dr Alex Borg, spokesman of the Opposition for Gozo, and the intervention of Hon Clint Camilleri, Minister for Gozo.
In his speech Joseph Borg, President of the Gozo Business Chamber, reflected on a number of issues including: the Chamber’s work on its 25th year anniversary, its relevance for Gozitan society, and its future; the value of voluntary work; the importance of islands; the need for Gozo to be a protagonist in the environment through the protection of the natural and built environment, and the promotion of renewable energy; the need for a new hospital for Gozo; and the potential of the island in the digital sector.
