On the 27 May 2022, Joseph Borg, as President of INSULEUR addressed the COMPOSE PLUS Conference, held at the Salini Resort, in Malta, organised by the Local Councils Association of Malta, and the Technical University of Crete.

The COMPOSE PLUS project contributes to sustainable energy planning and the development of projects towards the clean energy transition, through targeted actions for the transfer of knowledge and best practice and through the adoption of the Sustainable Energy Planning Toolbox (www.reselplan-toolbox.eu), developed by the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Laboratory of the Technical University of Crete, in the framework of the COMPOSE project. The toolbox supports policy makers, development planners, and technical staff of local authorities involved in the development and implementation of local/regional energy plans in the more effective planning, implementation and monitoring of sustainable energy projects. By utilising the toolbox, Mediterranean island regions gain access to appropriate planning tools, databases, practical guides and other useful resources for the sustainable development of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, building on local potential and promoting local energy supply chains. The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund in the framework of the Interreg MED programme.

In his intervention Joseph Borg highlighted that technologies are evolving rapidly, and that islands need to keep track of new technologies that are constantly developing.  He highlighted how the private sector can act as an innovator and as a catlyst of change in increasing the share of renewable energy sources on islands.
