On Saturday, 11th October 2025, the Gozo Business Chamber had the pleasure of welcoming the Leader of the Opposition, Dr Alex Borg, to its premises for a meeting focused on Gozo’s economic and strategic priorities.
During the meeting, the Chamber presented its Budget 2026 proposals, centred around three core pillars:
- Connectivity – addressing Gozo’s long-standing accessibility challenges;
- Economic diversification – reducing over-dependence on a narrow set of sectors;
- Human capital investment – equipping the workforce for future-oriented sectors.
The Chamber also outlined its strategic vision for Gozo, including a proposal to establish the island as an Investment Priority Area, inspired by best practices such as the UK’s Investment Zones. A governance reform for the Gozo Innovation Hub was also discussed, with the Chamber proposing the introduction of an independent board and a five-year business plan to help the Hub reach its full economic potential.
The meeting also addressed key issues such as:
- The role of the private sector and the challenges faced by SMEs;
- The integration of third-country nationals and labour market dynamics;
- The importance of long-term planning for infrastructure, including the port of Mġarr.
To commemorate the visit, the Chamber’s President Michael Galea presented Dr Borg with a copy of the Chamber’s recently launched publication celebrating its 25th anniversary, documenting its history and role as a leading voice for the business community in Gozo.
The Chamber thanks Dr Alex Borg and his team for their engagement and reiterates its commitment to working with all stakeholders to build a more competitive, inclusive, and resilient Gozo.
