The National Statistics Office issued news release on the sea transport between Malta and Gozo for the second quarter of 2022. There was an increase of 49 per cent for sea passengers travelling between Mġarr and Ċirkewwa when compared to the corresponding period of last year. Vehicle transport for the same quarter increased by 21.6 per cent.
Sea transport between Mġarr and Valletta cannot be compared to the corresponding period of last year given that the service was introduced on the 1st June 2021. During the second quarter 2022, a total of 1,663 trips were carried out carrying a total of 126,405 passengers. May registered the highest number of trips (637), with 38.3 per cent of the total trips for the total quarter, while June recorded the highest number of passengers (48,605) or 38.5 per cent of the total quarter.
