The President of the Gozo Business Chamber and INSULEUR Joseph Borg addressed the Conference organised by E.O.A.E.N on “The Contribution of the Greek Insular Economy over the last 200 years. 1821 -2021” in Piraeus.
In his contribution he highlighted that for Greece “with 2000 islands and islets which make about one fifth of the land area of the whole country and a population of about thirteen per cent of the country, the contribution to the economy is immeasurable.” He highlighted how islands because of their overreliance on tourism have been hit hard by the pandemic. In this situation “islands need to collaborate together because of the many issues that are common to all of them”.
This occasion provided an excellent opportunity to discuss with our colleagues in Greece the needs of and opportunities for insular economies.
