On the 14 December 2020, Hon Dr Robert Abela, inaugurated the second fibre optic link between Gozo and Malta. Through a press release issued on the same day the Gozo Business Chamber welcomed the project, which it had advocated for a number of years. It stated that the second fibre optic link will offer the much needed redundancy which is is necessary for companies in the digital sector to establish themselves in Gozo. The Chamber highlighted that this will complement another important investment, which is the Digital Innovation Hub in Xewkija, as it will help to attract companies to the hub, creating an ecosystem of business enterprises in this particular segment that will also benefit local companies.
