In October 2019, the Ministry for Gozo, the Gozo Business Chamber, and the Greening the Islands Foundation signed an agreement, through which the island of Gozo became a member of ‘The Greening the Islands Observatory’. An important part of this process is to assess the present situation in the area of sustainability, and propose concrete solutions which can be implemented. This requires the involvement of all stakeholders.
Between the 26th and the 27th May 2022 the Greening the Islands Observatory Island Meeting took place at the Digital Innovation Hub in Xewkija. Various themes related to sustainability were discussed including water, waste, energy, mobility, agriculture, and air quality. During the intensive two day discussion the present situation in Gozo was presented, and potential solutions discussed with key experts in each particular area.
In his concluding remarks Joseph Borg, President of Gozo Business Chamber and INSULEUR, commented: “we need to act now. The opportunities out there are immense. However, we need to start building on a long term plan integrating all the aspects.”
