On 12 June 2026, the Gozo Business Chamber welcomed Hon. Dr Jo Etienne Abela, Minister for Tourism, and Carlo Micallef, Chief Executive Officer of the Malta Tourism Authority, at the Chamber’s offices in Victoria, Gozo.
The meeting was attended by the Chamber’s President Michael Galea, Vice Presidents Joseph Borg and Edward Scerri, and Chief Executive Officer Daniel Borg.
During the meeting, the Chamber discussed a number of issues related to the future development of Gozo’s tourism sector, with particular emphasis on the need to continue strengthening a quality tourism offer for the island. The Chamber highlighted that Gozo’s tourism development should continue to reflect the island’s distinct identity, while supporting sustainable economic growth and contributing to year-round activity.
Among the themes discussed was the potential role of the rural airfield in attracting and supporting higher-value tourism to Gozo.
The meeting also addressed the cultural sector and its important role in enhancing Gozo’s tourism product. The Chamber emphasised that culture should continue to be positioned as a central element of Gozo’s offer, particularly in attracting visitors seeking authentic, meaningful, and high-quality experiences.
The Gozo Business Chamber thanked Minister Abela and Mr Micallef for their visit and expressed its commitment to continue engaging with the Ministry for Tourism, the Malta Tourism Authority, and other relevant stakeholders in favour of a sustainable and quality-driven tourism sector for Gozo.
