On 18 September 2025, the Gozo Business Chamber was represented by Daniel Borg (CEO) and Michael Galea (President) at the Malta Day celebrations held at St James’s Church, Piccadilly, London. The invitation was extended by the High Commissioner of Malta to the United Kingdom, H.E. Professor Stephen Montefort.
The Malta Day event offered the Chamber the opportunity to strengthen ties with the Maltese diplomatic mission in the UK and connect with members of the Maltese and British business communities.
Wrexham – 19 September
In Wrexham, Daniel Borg attended the Elevate Conference, organised by the Wrexham County Borough Council. The conference is a flagship event for entrepreneurs and business leaders, and included contributions from:
- Martin McCourt, former CEO of Dyson
- Lynda Moir, who oversaw event services at the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012
- Local business leaders representing sectors ranging from biotechnology to food manufacturing and sports
Wrexham’s strong economic base was highlighted, with over 11,000 enterprises, a university, and the second largest industrial estate in the UK, home to world-renowned companies such as JCB.
In the evening, a dinner hosted by Peter Schriewersmann gathered key representatives of Wrexham’s business and civic community. Daniel Borg shared Gozo’s experience with initiatives such as VisitGozo and InvestGozo, highlighting areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration.
Liverpool – 20 September
On 20 September, Daniel Borg travelled to Liverpool for meetings coordinated by Peter Schriewersmann. Discussions included:
- A meeting with Mark Lawlor on the governance model of the Baltic Triangle, a regenerated industrial district now thriving as a creative and cultural hub. Insights from this model may also inform the development of the Gozo Innovation Hub.
- A business meeting with Paul Jagota, focused on facilitating export opportunities for Gozitan food producers in the UK market.
Looking Ahead
The meetings in Wrexham and Liverpool demonstrated the strong potential for collaboration between businesses in these regions and Gozo. These visits laid the groundwork for a business delegation planned for early next year, which will strengthen ties and create new opportunities for Gozitan enterprises.
