The Gozo Business Chamber in collaboration with EUROPE DIRECT Gozo, the Gozo Regional Development Authority, Aġenzija Żgħażagħ and Bank of Valletta held the fifth edition of the ‘Youth 4 Entrepreneurship Gozo’ event. The event was held on Friday 17 November 2023 at the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz. This event formed part of the events organised during the SME Week.
The overall goal of this initiative was to instil confidence in young people enabling them to reach their full potential with direct attention to the economic potential and challenges facing the island of Gozo. Young people are also encouraged to adopt an innovative approach when developing their business ideas based on Gozo’s needs and potential.
This year’s theme for the Youth 4 Entrepreneurship contest, focused on ‘Spaces for Youth’. The theme emerged from the discussions that were held among last year’s participants. The term “space” is not defined by a physical or fixed location but by the interactions that occur within it. In Gozo spaces or places where youth can have fun and relax are very limited.
Three youths presented 3 ideas all related to the theme in Gozo, in front of a panel of business experts. The latter also had the opportunity to ask a number of questions related to the idea that was presented. The panel was composed of Mario Borg, CEO of the Gozo Regional Development Authority, Simon Schembri, Senior Manager, Community and Outreach Youth Work Services at Aġenzija Żgħażagħ and Mark Scicluna Bartoli, Executive Product Executive Business Banking at Bank of Valletta. The event was presented by Francesca Borg.
Prior to the event, The Gozo Business Chamber, EUROPE DIRECT Gozo and Aġenzija Żgħażagħ organised specified coaching sessions to all the participants.
All the participants were presented with a certificate of participation by Ronald Anthony Sultana, Director, for the Tourism and Economic Development Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo. The audience was also addressed by Michael Galea, Vice-President of the Gozo Business Chamber, and Simon Schembri, Senior Manager, Community and, Outreach Youth Work Services at Aġenzija Żgħażagħ.
