Representatives of the Gozo Business Chamber have met with the Hon. Member of the European Parliament Cyrus Engerer.
He introduced himself highlighting the committees in which he is currently participating. On his part, the President of the Chamber, Joseph Borg highlighted how the Chamber was formed, and how its role has evolved along the years. He also remarked how he is also currently the President of INSULEUR (the Insular Chambers of Commerce and Industry fo the European Union), and the importance of this organisation in putting forward the concerns of islands, especially during this period where the COVID-19 has impacted negatively their economies. Within this context it was highlighted how island economies were over reliant on the tourism sector. Various issues relating to sustainability were discussed. Joseph Borg, put forward the idea that Gozo could become carbon-neutral before Malta. The diversification of the Gozitan economy was also another topic of discussion
